Make it yourself series: Part 4, household cleaning(long-overdue...I know!)

Super Household Cleaner
-1/3 cup white vinegar
-1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
-3 1/2 cups water
-1 clean 32 oz spray bottle
  • Mix all the ingredients in the spray bottle.  Shake well before using...wasn't that easy...you're done, now you just need to figure out which child you will have clean things for you.
*Side note: Use bread to clean your wallpaper...no I'm serious!  Cut the crusts off a slice of white bread and roll it up into a ball.  Once the bread starts to feel slightly doughy, roll it over the bad spot on the wallpaper to lift off all the crap.  Try it!

Tough Multipurpose Cleaner
-1 1/2 pints water
-1/3 cup rubbing alcohol
-1 tsp. household ammonia
-1 tsp dish soap
-1/2 tsp lemon juice
-1 clean 32 oz spray bottle
  • Mix all the ingredients in the spray bottle...there you go!  You can use this on walls, in the kitchen, bathroom.
*just as a side note here, you can get all this at the dollar store, and you'll pay 6 dollars and you will have at least 3 times as much for you'd pay in a store for a brand name product!

Herbal Carpet Freshner
-1/2 cup lavender flowers
-1 cup baking soda
-cheese grater (yes, you read that right)
  • Crush the lavender flowers to make them would release their lovely scent.
  • Mix with baking soda
  • Put it all in the cheese grater (or you can use an old can and just punch some holes in the end)
  • Sprinkle the carpet and let it sit for 30 minutes and than vacuum.
*I personally love to do this, it is relaxing, and I love to open my windows in the spring and have the fresh air and lovely scent through my home.

Pie Spice Room Freshner
-3 cups water
-6 cloves
-1 cinnamon stick
-6 pieces orange peel
  • Mix all ingredients and boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, on low. (make sure all the water doesn't boil away)
Spot, Mold and Mildew Remover
-1 C white vinegar
-2 TBS white vinegar
-4 C hot water
-1 32 oz spray bottle
  • Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and mix it...all done!
Lemon Oil Furniture Polish
-1 cup olive oil
-1/3 c lemon juice (fresh is best, but not necessary)
-1 clean 16oz spray bottle (you see a trend here, DollarTree has made a small fortune just off of the spray bottles I've bought)
  • Mix in the spray bottle.  Wipe your furniture with a soft cloth.  Use a dry cloth to buff and polish.
Chrome and Stainless Steel Polish
-1/4 tsp baby oil
1/2 c club soda
  • Take a soft cloth with a few drops of baby oil and rub down the surface.  Then  use a towel with the club soda on and to wipe off the oil.  Dry with cloth.

Super Easy Silver Shine
-1 qt hot water
-1 TBS baking, or washing, soda
-1 TBS salt
-1 sheet aluminum foil
  • Fill the kitchen sink with the quart of hot water.
  • Dissolve the soda of choice and salt in the water, then put the foil at the bottom of the sink.
  • Rest the tarnished silver on the foil for about 10 Mississippi's.  Remove and dry.

So all in all:
-15 dollars: what you'd need to spend at Dollar Tree to make every recipe here.
-1 hour: the time it would take you to make all this.
-Look on husbands face when he sees how much money I've been saving us by making all this stuff myself...priceless!  There are some things money can't buy, and for everything else...theres a coupon!

2 people have had something to say about this:

Thank you! It's wonderful to see these all in one place for ready reference.... Or, just imagine making them all in advance so I have it when needed.

What's your fav for windows?

I really like the super household cleaner. It works great, and I don't have to worry about my little one when she is using it to "clean". If your doing windows, use that cleaner and wipe it clean with old newspaper. The newspaper will clear any streaks and leave them looking super clean!
