Make it yourself series: Part 3, stomach & head

Sorry this post has taken a bit longer than expected to get out, but this is the last in the series dealing with Health and Beauty...next it will be moving onto the house.  So here you are!


Anti-Diarrhea Tea
-2 Teaspoons dried raspberry and/or blackberry leaves
-Boiling Water

  1. In a teacup, steep the berry leaves in freshly boiled water for at least 10 minutes.  Strain
  2. Drink a small cup 3 times a day along with the other fluids to prevent dehydration.
Electrolyte Drink for Diarrhea
-1 cup apple juice
-2 cups water
-1/2 to 1 tsp salt
-juice from a lemon or lime

  1. In a pitcher, combine apple juice, water, salt, and the lemon or lime juice.  Store in fridge.
  2. Drink throughout the day to keep hydrated and balance the electrolytes
Cough Suppressant Tea
-4 fresh Sage leaves or 1 tsp dried
-Boiling water

  1. In a standard teacup, steep the sage leaves in boiling water for at least 20 minutes.  Strain and drink either hot or cold.
Cough Suppressant Medicine
-1 large onion, finely chopped
-2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
-2 TBS finely chopped fresh ginger
-Honey

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the onion, garlic and ginger.  Add honey to cover and cook over very low heat for 30 minutes.  Then mash together and let cool.  Strain and store in a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid in the refrigerator.
  2. Take one tsp every 15 to 30 minutes.
Spray for Fever
- 1/4 C rubbing alcohol
- 1/4 C witch hazel
- 3 drops peppermint oil
- 2 drops lavender oil

  1. In a clean spray bottle, combine the rubbing alcohol, witch hazel, and essential oils.  Shake to mix and then chill in the fridge.  
  2. Spray onto pulse points to reduce fever, avoid the eyes and mouth.
Healing Calendula Lotion   


<This is a Calendula flower, they are everywhere, I have them growing like weeds all over my garden.
-Calendula Flowers


1. Crush several calendula flower petals between your fingers (or with a mortar and pestal) until petals are juicy.
2. Rub both petals and juice onto your skin


*make sure you have calendula officinalis flowers, these are the ones with the therapeutic effect and are used to primarily treat eczema and dermatitis.


Toothache-Relieving Dental Paste
- 2 TBS powdered ginger
- 2 TBS red cayenne pepper
- Water

  1. In a small dish, mix powdered ginger and the pepper with enough water to make a paste.
  2. Soak a cotton ball with the paste and put on the tooth thats hurting.  Keep the past off your gums, because it may be irritating to the gums.  
*If this is a little much for you, you can just get a few cloves and chew on those...they will do much the same.


Hot Pepper Rub
- 2 TBS cayenne pepper
- 1/2 C aloe lotion

  1. In a small bowl, combine the cayenne with the lotion
  2. Massage the mix into the painful area, be careful to wash your hands afterward....unless you want your eyes and face to burn like the fire of a thousand suns!!!
Catnip Anti-Anxiety Tea
- 2 tsp dried catnip
- 1 C boiling water

  1. In a teapot, steep catnip in the water for 5 - 7 minutes, stain and drink, drink up to 3x's a day


So There you have it folks...everything you could want or need to keep yourself looking good and feeling well...and all withing the comforts of your own home!!!
